Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
Tropical Cyclone Luana is making landfall on Saturday afternoon over the
Dampier Peninsula in west Kimberley, and will weaken below cyclone strength on
Sunday morning as it moves further inland. The remnant low pressure system will
move into the North Interior on Sunday night or Monday.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A trough in the Interior is moving west to the Goldfields and eastern Gascoyne,
as a ridge weakens over southwest WA. A couple of weak cold fronts brush past
the southwest and south coasts on Sunday and Monday, followed by a new ridge
developing in the south. The trough over the Goldfields will move east and
stall over the Interior as remnants of Tropical Cyclone Luana moves through the
South Interior on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday 24 January
Heavy rain, with damaging to destructive winds over the western Kimberley close
to the path of Tropical Cyclone Luana. Damaging winds and heavy rain possible
elsewhere across northern and southern Kimberley. Showers and gusty
thunderstorms over the remainder of the Kimberley, much of the Pilbara,
Interior, northeast Goldfields, and northeast Gascoyne. Smoke haze over
southern parts of the state. Very hot over the northern Goldfields, inland
Gascoyne and South Interior. Windy at times through the Eucla, southern
Goldfields and South East Coastal district.
Forecast for Sunday 25 January
Heavy rains and windy conditions over western Kimberley, northeast Pilbara and
adjacent North Interior, with damaging winds possible in thunderstorms. Showers
and gusty thunderstorms over the remainder of the Kimberley, central Pilbara,
Interior, northeast Gascoyne, eastern Goldfields, eastern parts of South East
Coastal and Eucla. Light showers or drizzle about western and southwestern
parts of the South West Land Division. Smoke haze over southern parts of the
state. Very hot over the north and east Goldfields, eastern South East Coastal
District, Eucla and South Interior. Windy at times through southern Interior,
eastern Goldfields and Eucla.
Forecast for Monday 26 January
Heavy rain and thunderstorms over the northern Interior, north and west
Kimberley and far eastern Pilbara. Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the
remainder of the Kimberley, eastern Pilbara, Interior, eastern Goldfields,
Eucla, and northeast Gascoyne. Light showers or drizzle about western and
southern parts of the South West Land Division, contracting to far southern
parts in the afternoon. Patchy morning fog over the South East Coastal
district. Very hot in the eastern Eucla, mild across much of the South West
Land Division. Windy at times through southern, Kimberley, Interior and Eucla.
Forecast for Tuesday 27 January
Heavy rain and thunderstorms over the Interior, eastern Goldfields, and Eucla.
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, eastern Pilbara and eastern
Gascoyne. Light showers along the south coast west of Israelite Bay. Windy at
times through the Interior, Goldfields and Eucla.
Forecast for Wednesday 28 January
Heavy rain and thunderstorms over the southern Interior, eastern Goldfields and
Eucla. Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, North
Interior and eastern Gascoyne. Windy at times over central and southern parts
of the State.
