Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
Tropical Low 08U is located well off the northwest Kimberley coast and is
moving slowly south. It is forecast to develop into a Tropical Cyclone during
Monday and turn southeast towards the western Kimberley coast. It may cross the
coast as a cyclone or low late Tuesday or into Wednesday. Meanwhile, a broad
complex of low pressure lies over the Interior and northern Gascoyne. A
southeasterly surge will push the trough closer to the Kimberley and Pilbara
coasts Tuesday.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A ridge is developing along the south coast, driving a southeasterly airstream
through southern and central parts. A trough will develop down the west coast
from Tuesday, moving into inland western parts Thursday or Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday 28 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over most of the Kimberley, inland east Pilbara
and Gascoyne, northeastern parts of the South West Land Division, the
Goldfields. western Eucla and western Interior. Showers possible through
southern parts of the South West and South Coastal districts, mostly clearing
later this afternoon. Very hot through the Pilbara, southern Kimberley,
northern Gascoyne, northern and central Interior. Windy at times over southern
and central WA.
Forecast for Monday 29 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, eastern and central
Pilbara, inland Gascoyne, very far northeast Central Wheat Belt and Central
West, Goldfields. Eucla and western Interior. Showers over southern coastal
districts. Very hot through the Pilbara, southern Kimberley, northern Gascoyne
and northern Interior. Windy over southern and central WA.
Forecast for Tuesday 30 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, northern Gascoyne
and Interior. Chance of light showers over the Eucla and south coast, east of
Albany, mostly morning. Very hot through the Pilbara, northwest Gascoyne and
northern Interior. Windy over central and southeastern WA. Windy with heavy
rainfall possibly increasing later along the west Kimberley coast, depending on
movement and development of Tropical Low 08U.
Forecast for Wednesday 31 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, northern
Goldfields, Interior, northern Central Wheat Belt and northeast Central West.
Very hot through the Pilbara and northwest Gascoyne. Windy at times over
western and central parts of the State. Windy and heavy rainfall possible near
the west Kimberley coast, depending on movement and development of Tropical Low
08U.
Forecast for Thursday 1 January
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne,
Goldfields, Interior and possibly the northern and western South West Land
Division. Very hot over the Pilbara, Gascoyne and inland northern South West
Land Division.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 1:45 am WST Monday.
