Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A broad area of low pressure will persist over the Pilbara and Kimberley.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie sits east of the Kimberley and continues to move
slowly south over land in the Northern Territory. The ex-cyclone may move
closer to the WA/NT border early next week.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A firm ridge of high pressure remains south of the State, whilst a low pressure
trough is located near the west coast. The southern end of the trough will move
inland on today ahead of a weak cold front brushing past the southwest coast on
Sunday. A new ridge of high pressure will extend across the South West Land
Division from Sunday night.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday 24 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, tending squally with
possible heavy falls in the north and east. Showers and gusty thunderstorms
also over the north and central Interior, Pilbara, north and west Gascoyne and
northern Central West district. Chance of morning fog over the southern coastal
districts. Very hot over southwest Kimberley, southern Goldfields, northern and
central and eastern parts of the South West Land Division.
Forecast for Sunday 25 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, northern parts of the
Interior and north Pilbara, with heavy falls and damaging wind gusts in the
east. Chance of thunderstorms with little or no rainfall over the Gascoyne,
Goldfields, eastern parts of the South West Land Division, southern Interior,
southern Pilbara and western Eucla. Few showers about southern South West and
South Coastal districts. Very hot over southwest Kimberley, inland northern and
central parts of the South West Land Division, Goldfields and Eucla.
Forecast for Monday 26 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, inland Pilbara, Interior,
Eucla, Goldfields, northeast Gascoyne and far South East Coastal district. Few
showers about southern South West and South Coastal districts. Very hot over
inland eastern parts of the South West Land Division, Goldfields, Eucla and
adjacent South Interior.
Forecast for Tuesday 27 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, inland Pilbara, Interior,
eastern Eucla, eastern Goldfields and northeast Gascoyne. Chance of light
showers over the southern coastal districts. Very hot over eastern Eucla.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm WST Saturday.
