Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
Tropical Cyclone Hayley is located offshore from the northwest Kimberley coast,
moving southeast then east towards the western Kimberley coast today and
tomorrow. It is forecast to cross the coast late Tuesday or into Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a broad low pressure trough lies over the Interior and Pilbara. A
southeasterly surge will push the trough closer to the Kimberley and Pilbara
coasts on Tuesday where it will linger until Thursday.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A ridge sits along the south coast, driving a southeasterly airstream over
southern and central parts. A trough will begin developing down the west coast
from Tuesday, moving into inland western parts Thursday or Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday 29 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, eastern and central
Pilbara, inland Gascoyne, very far northeast Central Wheat Belt and Central
West, Goldfields. Eucla and western Interior. Very hot through the Pilbara,
southern Kimberley, northern Gascoyne and northern Interior. Windy over
southern and central WA.
Forecast for Tuesday 30 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, northern Gascoyne,
Interior and eastern Eucla. Chance of light showers near the south coast, east
of Albany, mostly morning. Very hot through the Pilbara, northwest Gascoyne and
northern Interior. Windy over most of central and southern WA. Becoming very
windy with heavy rainfall along the west Kimberley coast during the day,
associated with Tropical Cyclone Hayley.
Forecast for Wednesday 31 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, northern
Goldfields, Interior. and northern Central West. Very hot through the Pilbara
and northwest Gascoyne. Windy at times over western and central parts of the
State. Very windy with heavy rainfall near the west Kimberley coast, associated
with Tropical Cyclone Hayley, easing.
Forecast for Thursday 1 January
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne,
Goldfields, Interior and and northeast Central Wheat Belt and Central West.
Chance of a thunderstorm over the far southwest inland parts of the South West
Land Division. Very hot over the Pilbara, Gascoyne and inland northern South
West Land Division.
Forecast for Friday 2 January
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, eastern Gascoyne,
Goldfields, Interior, Eucla and the eastern South West Land Division. Very hot
over the Pilbara, Gascoyne and inland northern South West Land Division.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 1:45 am WST Tuesday.
