Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
Tropical Low 28U is likely to reach cyclone intensity before crossing the
Kimberley coast to the north of Derby overnight. The system will gradually
weaken as it tracks towards the south, and then southeast into the North
Interior during the weekend. Elsewhere, a ridge extends into the east Pilbara
and North Interior, while a trough will remain near the west Pilbara coast
during the next few days.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A high pressure centre moving through the Southern Ocean during the weekend
will extend a persistent ridge through southern and central parts of the State,
while a stagnant trough lies near the west coast. An upper-level trough will
approach the west coast during Saturday night and Sunday, producing some
showers and thunderstorms over the South West Land Division. The northern end
of a cold front will brush past the south coast during Tuesday as the trough
starts to move inland from the west coast.
Forecast for the rest of Friday 28 March
Tropical Low 28U is approaching the Kimberley coast to the north of Derby,
bringing squally showers and thunderstorms to the region. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms across the remainder of the region and extending into the
adjacent North Interior and far northeast Pilbara. Possible light showers
across the South Coastal District. Very warm conditions across the northwest of
the State.
Forecast for Saturday 29 March
Tropical Low 28U will slowly weaken as it moves inland through the Kimberley,
but will still bring heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts over central parts of
the region. Heaviest falls are likely in an area between Derby and Fitzroy
Crossing, extending southward later in the day and at night. Showers and
thunderstorms across the rest of the Kimberley, increasing over adjacent parts
of the North Interior. Showers and the chance of a thunderstorm over the inland
South West, southern Wheat Belt, Great Southern, South Coastal District and
west-central South East Coastal District. Remaining hot over the north-central
South West Land Division, Gascoyne and west
Forecast for Sunday 30 March

Belt, Great Southern, South Coastal District and South East Coastal District,
