Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A broad trough lies over inland northern parts of the State. A tropical low
(21U) is north of the Kimberley and will move towards the west in the coming
days. There is an increased chance of this system becoming a cyclone during the
weekend but it will remain well offshore from the WA coast.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A trough lies down the west coast while a ridge is in place over southern parts
of the State. The trough will move eastward during Thursday and Friday with the
northern end of a cold front predicted to brush the southwest corner on Friday.
A new ridge will strengthen over southern and western WA on Saturday before a
new trough deepens down the west coast on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday 20 February
Showers and gusty thunderstorms possible over the northern Kimberley, inland
Pilbara, inland Gascoyne, South West Land Division and western and southern
Goldfields. Thunderstorms may become severe in the Central Wheat Belt, eastern
Great Southern, South Coastal District, South East Coastal District and western
Goldfields.
Forecast for Friday 21 February
Showers and gusty thunderstorms possible over the Kimberley, inland Pilbara,
inland Gascoyne, South Interior, northern and eastern Goldfields, Eucla and
eastern South West Land Division. Possible showers south of a line from Jurien
Bay to Hyden to Hopetoun, most likely about the southwest coast. Milder over
most parts of the South West Land Division with moderate to fresh west to
southwesterly winds extending throughout.
Forecast for Saturday 22 February
Possible showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, inland Pilbara, inland
northern Gascoyne, far northern and eastern Goldfields, Eucla and South
Interior. Chance of showers about the south coast. Unseasonably mild about the
South West Land Division and southern half of the Goldfields.
Forecast for Sunday 23 February
Chance of showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, inland Pilbara, inland
Gascoyne, western Interior and far northern Goldfields. Tending warmer down the
west coast. Fresh and gusty east to southeasterly winds in the morning through
central WA and across the Scarp.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm WST Thursday.
