Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A weak trough lies over the Kimberley and extends west along the Pilbara coast.
A high pressure ridge will develop over the Gascoyne coast on Sunday bringing
southerly winds to the western Pilbara.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A high pressure system will move through central and southern parts of the
State today ahead of a cold front that will move over western and southern
parts later today and Saturday. A low pressure system will form south of the
State in the wake of the cold front overnight Saturday and Sunday, maintaining
a vigorous showery westerly airstream. The low will weaken and move away to the
east on Monday with another high pressure ridge extending over the central west
coast.
Forecast for the rest of Friday 16 August
Light showers along the south coast east of Esperance clearing during the
morning. Showers developing about west coastal parts south of Perth, increasing
and extending west of a line Jurien Bay to Albany gradually during the
afternoon and evening. Possible thunderstorm about coastal parts between
Bunbury and Augusta later in the day. Windy about the southwest coast. Chance
of early fog over the northeast Lower West, inland Central West, adjacent
southwest Gascoyne, western parts of Central Wheat Belt and northwest Great
Southern districts. Possible morning frosts over the inland South East Coastal
district, far east Great Southern and southern Goldfields.
Forecast for Saturday 17 August
Showers southwest of a line Carnarvon to Albany, extending to southwest of a
line Exmouth to Eyre by evening. Heavy falls possible in areas between Lancelin
and Denmark. Gusty thunderstorms over western parts south of Kalbarri,
extending east with the showers during the day to be southwest of Kalbarri to
Mount Magnet to Norseman to Esperance by evening. Windy over southern and
central parts. Chance of early fog over northwest Gascoyne and Cape Range. Surf
conditions will be hazardous for coastal activities and tides are also higher
than normal for parts of the west coast.
Forecast for Sunday 18 August
Showers south of a line Denham to Meekatharra to Eucla contracting to west
coastal parts south of Geraldton and southern parts south of Kalgoorlie during
the afternoon. Showers more widespread about southern districts. Light morning
showers along the northwest coast between Denham and Exmouth. Possible
thunderstorms about coastal parts between Lancelin to Israelite Bay. Very windy
over southern districts. Surf conditions will be hazardous for coastal
activities and tides are also higher than normal along the south coast.
Forecast for Monday 19 August
Showers over the South West Land Division, adjacent southwest Gascoyne,
southern Goldfields and southern Eucla, clearing inland parts during the
afternoon. Windy over southern districts, easing during the day.
