Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A new ridge building through northern Australia is directing a cooler southeast
change. A cloud band associated with a frontal passage over southern WA will
bring light rain to southern Pilbara today and on Friday before clearing on the
weekend.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A ridge over southern WA is moving east. A strong cold front will approach the
west coast today, moving through far southwest parts in the evening and then
further north and east on Thursday. A ridge will then develop over central
parts of the State later Friday. Meanwhile, a westerly flow with embedded weak
troughs will continue over southwest WA into the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday 17 July
Showers developing west of Harvey and Pemberton during the morning, spreading
to southwest of a line from Denham to Ravensthorpe during the afternoon and
evening. Showers tending to rain over the South West district in the evening.
Chance of a gusty thunderstorm about the Southwest Capes during the afternoon
and evening. Chance of a morning shower about the northern parts of the Dampier
Peninsula. Chance of morning fog over far eastern parts of the South East
Coastal district, southeast Goldfields, Eucla and adjacent South Interior.
Chance of morning frost over the southern Interior. Windy across western and
northern WA.
Forecast for Thursday 18 July
Widespread showers and rain southwest of Exmouth to Eyre decreasing to a chance
a shower elsewhere southwest of Karratha to Eucla. Chance of gusty
thunderstorms and small hail near the coast between Perth and Albany. Heavy
falls possible over the Central West, Lower West and adjacent Central Wheat
Belt. Windy at times. Tides will be higher than normal about the coast between
Perth and Geraldton.
Forecast for Friday 19 July
Showers southwest of a line from Port Hedland to Warburton, easing to just a
chance of a shower over the western Gascoyne and inland South West Land
Division. Isolated thunderstorms about the coast from Cape Naturaliste to
Israelite Bay. Small hail possible south of Mandurah to Esperance. Windy about
southeast WA. Tides will be higher than normal between Cape Leeuwin and
Esperance.
Forecast for Saturday 20 July
Showers over the South West Land Division, mainly over the western districts.
Chance of morning fog and frosts over northern parts of the South West Land
Division, southeast Gascoyne, Goldfields and southern Interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm WST Wednesday.
