Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A strong high pressure system lies over the Bight and is directing a dry east
to southeasterly flow across the northern of the State, pushing a trough near
or offshore from the west Kimberley and Pilbara coast. Winds will start to ease
over the Pilbara today, and over the Kimberley from Wednesday, as the ridge
begins to break down. This will allow the trough to drift back inland. A new
ridge extending through the west Pilbara will maintain a rather fresh
southeasterly flow on Wednesday and Thursday.

Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A strong high pressure centre over the Bight extends a ridge through most of
southern and central WA, while a trough extends offshore from the west coast.
The trough will start to move eastward today, crossing the coast and continuing
through the Goldfields on Wednesday to reach the Interior on Thursday. A weak
front will wash out before reaching the southwest corner on tonight, then a
ridge will extend through southern and western parts of the State on Wednesday
and Thursday.

Forecast for the rest of Tuesday 17 October
Sunny for most of the State, except becoming cloudy in the southwest corner.
Very hot over northern WA and extending down through the Gascoyne and inland
parts of the South West Land Division. Fresh and gusty winds in the Kimberley
during the morning, and through the inland Central West, Central Wheat Belt and
Great Southern in the afternoon. Cooler and more humid in the afternoon about
the west coast.

Forecast for Wednesday 18 October
Cooler throughout the South West Land Division and southern and western
Goldfields. Remaining very hot from the Pilbara southeastward through the
inland Gascoyne, eastern and northern Goldfields, Interior and Eucla. Light
showers southwest of a line from Harvey to Israelite Bay. Not as windy in the
morning over the Kimberley.

Forecast for Thursday 19 October
Light showers possible south and west of a line from Harvey to Hopetoun. Cooler
in the eastern Goldfields and Eucla. Remaining very hot through northern WA.
Light showers south of Harvey to Salmon Gums to Cocklebiddy. Cooler over far
southwestern and southern parts. Very hot across the Kimberley, Pilbara and
northwest Gascoyne.

Forecast for Friday 20 October
Chance of light showers in the morning between Windy Harbour and Bremer Bay.
Partly cloudy for most of the South West Land Division with sunny skies in
northern WA and the Interior. Very hot temperatures persisting across northern
parts of the State.

The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm WST Tuesday.
