Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A broad trough lies over the Kimberley and Pilbara and will be pushed towards
the Pilbara coast as a high pressure ridge strengthens over the central west
coast on Monday and Tuesday. A tropical low over the Timor Sea is moving
west-southwest and is forecast to gradually intensify, likely reaching cyclone
intensity later Sunday north of the Kimberley coast. The system is expected to
intensify further early next week as it moves on a general track parallel to
the Kimberley coast. There is significant risk that this system will become a
severe tropical cyclone and impact the central/east Pilbara or west Kimberley
Coast from Wednesday.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A high pressure ridge lies over southern WA while a trough extends from the
inland Gascoyne through the Lower West and adjacent offshore waters. The trough
will move slowly inland today ahead of a cold front forecast to move over the
southwest of the State on Monday. A high pressure ridge will strengthen through
central parts of the State during Monday night and Tuesday as a weak cold front
brushes the southwest corner on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday 9 April
Showers and squally thunderstorms with possible heavy falls over the far
northern Kimberley. Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the remaining north
and east Kimberley, inland southeast Pilbara, far northeast Gascoyne,
northeastern Goldfields, and western and southern Interior. Chance of showers
in the far southern Goldfields, South Coastal District, South East Coastal
District and western Eucla. Areas of fog in the morning possible for the inland
South West district.
Forecast for Monday 10 April
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley tending to squally thunderstorms
with possible heavy falls over the far northern Kimberley. Chance of a showers
over the far eastern Goldfields, central and east Eucla and southern Interior.
Showers and possible thunderstorms extending to southwest of a line Mandurah to
Narrogin to Bremer Bay during the morning, with showers extending further north
and east to southwest of a line Kalbarri to Merredin to Ravensthorpe by evening.
Forecast for Tuesday 11 April
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, with heavy rainfall and strong
winds possible about the northwest Kimberley coast, depending on the movement
and development of Tropical Low 23U. Showers and thunderstorms over the
northeast Pilbara and northeast Interior. A few showers in the eastern
Goldfields, southern Interior and Eucla. Showers southwest of a line Perth to
Katanning to Israelite Bay, contracting to southwest of a line Perth to
Katanning to Albany during the afternoon.
Forecast for Wednesday 12 April
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley and central and east Pilbara, with
heavy rainfall and strong winds possible about the west Kimberley and far east
Pilbara coast, depending on the movement and development of Tropical Low 23U.
Showers and thunderstorms over the northeast Gascoyne and Interior. Showers
southwest of a line Perth to Albany.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm WST Sunday.
