Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A broad area of low pressure persists over the Pilbara and Kimberley.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie is located just inland of Broome in the southwest
Kimberley. The system is expected to rapidly move to the southeast across the
southern Kimberley and North Interior today, reaching the WA/NT border on
Saturday and exiting the state.

Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A ridge of high pressure extending across the southern parts of the state is
slowly contracting southeast. A trough lies off the west coast and will move
inland today, ahead of a weak cold front about the southwest coast. The next
ridge of high pressure will extend over the southwest coast later today in the
wake of the cold front, and over the southern parts of the state on the weekend.

Forecast for the rest of Friday 6 January
Rain, showers and gusty thunderstorms over the southern Kimberley, North
Interior and far northeast Pilbara, with heavy falls and damaging wind gusts
possible, moving southeastwards during the day. Showers and gusty thunderstorms
over remaining northern parts of the Interior, Kimberley and east Pilbara.
Light showers near the southwest coast. Windy over the northern parts of the
Interior, inland eastern Pilbara, southern Kimberley, western parts of the
South West Land Division and western Gascoyne. Very hot over the west Pilbara,
western Gascoyne, Central West, northern parts of the Lower West, far western
parts of the Central Wheat Belt and eastern parts of the South Coastal district.

Forecast for Saturday 7 January
Rain, showers and gusty thunderstorms over the southeastern parts of the North
Interior and northeastern parts of the South Interior, with heavy falls and
damaging wind gusts possible, contracting east during the day. Showers and
thunderstorms over the Kimberley, north Pilbara and remaining parts of the
North Interior. Windy over the southeast Kimberley, Eucla and eastern Interior.
Light showers about the southern coastal districts west of Israelite Bay.

Forecast for Sunday 8 January
Showers and chance of thunderstorms over the far east Pilbara and the
Kimberley. Showers about the northern and far eastern parts of the Interior.
Windy over the Goldfields, Eucla and South Interior. Very hot over southwest
Pilbara, western Gascoyne and far northern parts of Central West.

Forecast for Monday 9 January
Showers and chance of thunderstorms over the Kimberley and adjacent North
Interior. Showers about the far eastern parts of the Interior. Chance of
thunderstorms with little or no rainfall over southern Gascoyne, northern parts
of the South West Land Division, northwest Goldfields and far west South
Interior. Windy over the Gascoyne and Central West. Very hot over southwest
Pilbara, western Gascoyne, Central West and Lower West.
