Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A broad area of low pressure will persist over the Pilbara and Kimberley.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie sits east of the Kimberley and continues to move
slowly south over land in the Northern Territory. The ex-cyclone may move
closer to the WA/NT border mid next week.
Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A firm ridge of high pressure remains south of the State with a low pressure
trough extending from the northwest coast to the inland South West Land
Division. The southern end of the trough will continue to move east ahead of a
weak cold front brushing past the southwest coast today. A new ridge of high
pressure will extend across the South West Land Division from Monday with
another trough beginning to develop down the west coast on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday 25 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, with local heavy falls a
risk in the northeast. Chance of thunderstorms with little or no rainfall over
the Pilbara, Gascoyne, western Goldfields, and northeast Central Wheat Belt.
Showers about southern South West, South Coastal and adjacent Great Southern
districts, contracting to the coast in the afternoon then clearing. Very hot
over southwest Kimberley, inland Pilbara, Goldfields, Eucla and northeastern
parts of the South West Land Division.
Forecast for Monday 26 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, Interior,
northeast Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla and far South East Coastal district.
Showers about southern South West, South Coastal and adjacent Great Southern
districts. Very hot over inland eastern parts of the South West Land Division,
Goldfields, Eucla and adjacent South Interior.
Forecast for Tuesday 27 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, Interior, east
Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, and far South East Coastal district. Chance of
light showers over the southern coastal districts of the South West Land
Division. Becoming windy over southern and central parts. Very hot over far
eastern Eucla.
Forecast for Wednesday 28 December
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, tending squally with
possible heavy falls in the east. Showers and gusty thunderstorms also over the
Pilbara, north Gascoyne, Interior and far east Eucla. Windy over southern and
central parts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm WST Sunday.
