Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A sharp surface trough lies over the western Pilbara, with a broader area of low pressure extending through to the North Interior and southern Kimberley.

Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A high pressure ridge lies to the south of the State. A broad surface trough extends from the Goldfields towards the southwest of the State, and will move slowly to the southeast, ahead of a weak cold front that will brush the southwest of the State later on Wednesday. A strong ridge of high pressure will develop in its wake of the cold front during Thursday, with a second weak cold front brushing the south coast late Friday. A new ridge of high pressure will develop in the wake of the cold front on Saturday.

Forecast for the rest of Tuesday 1 January
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, eastern inland Pilbara, eastern Goldfields, Interior, far northeast Gascoyne and Eucla, contracting eastwards in southern parts this evening. Very hot away from southwestern parts of the State.

Forecast for Wednesday 2 January
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, eastern Pilbara, Interior and the Eucla, contracting eastwards in southern parts during the day. Morning drizzle possible about the west coast south of Perth. Showers developing southwest of a line Bunbury to Albany in the evening. Very hot away from southwestern parts of the State, particularly over the southern Interior and Eucla.

Forecast for Thursday 3 January
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, inland Pilbara and Interior. A period of morning showers southwest of a line Jurien Bay to Lake Grace to Israelite Bay, contracting to the western south coast by the afternoon.

Forecast for Friday 4 January
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, eastern inland Pilbara, Interior, eastern Gascoyne and far northern Goldfields. Showers over coastal parts of the Southwest and South Coast. Very hot in the Pilbara and Interior.

Forecast for Saturday 5 January
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, inland Pilbara, Interior and northern Gascoyne. Showers about southern coastal parts contracting eastwards during the day.
