Weather Situation – Northern Western Australia
A surface trough lies through the Pilbara, and extends towards southeastern parts of the State. A developing tropical low lies over waters off the northwest Kimberley coast. It is expected to track southwest overnight, with the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone by Thursday morning. The system will continue to move southwest over the next few days over waters north of and parallel to the Pilbara coast. Although unlikely to cross the Kimberley coast, this system may produce coastal gales and squalls over the northwest Kimberley, with heavy falls possible. Weather Situation – Southern and Central Western Australia
A deep surface trough lies through the Interior, Goldfields and Southeast Coastal district. The surface trough will contract slowly eastwards overnight tonight. A deep low pressure system lies off the southwest coast. The low is bringing unseasonally cool, wet and windy conditions to the southwest of WA easing overnight as the low moves southeast away from the coast. A new ridge will develop over southern parts Thursday through Saturday. A trough develops down the west coast on Sunday.

Forecast for the rest of Wednesday 23 January
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, tending to rain and thunderstorms in the far north, with heavy falls possible near the northwest coast. Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the central and eastern Pilbara, Interior, eastern Goldfields and Eucla. Showers over remaining areas southwest of Kalbarri to Hopetoun, with unseasonally cool, wet and windy conditions in the southwest. Damaging winds possible in the Southwest and South Coastal districts and adjacent parts of the Great Southern.

Forecast for Thursday 24 January
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, tending to rain and thunderstorms in the north, with heavy falls possible near the northwest coast. Showers and thunderstorms through the central and eastern Pilbara, Interior, eastern Goldfields and the Eucla. Showers through western and southern parts of the South West Land Division, contracting to the south coast during the day. Damaging winds possible in the Southwest and South Coastal districts and adjacent parts of the Great Southern during the early morning.

Forecast for Friday 25 January
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, tending to rain and thunderstorms in the north, with heavy falls possible near the northwest coast. Showers and thunderstorms through the Pilbara, Interior, northeast Gascoyne, northern Goldfields and eastern Eucla. Showers about south coastal parts of the South West Land Division, mostly in the morning.

Forecast for Saturday 26 January
Showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Kimberley, tending to rain and thunderstorms in the north, with heavy falls possible near the northwest and west coasts. Showers and thunderstorms through the Pilbara, Interior, Gascoyne, Goldfields and Eucla.

Forecast for Sunday 27 January
Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley, Pilbara, Interior, Gascoyne and northern Goldfields. Gusty along the Pilbara and Kimberley coasts and adjacent inland areas.
